Qualifying Events
When will the qualifying cycle begin? When and where will qualifying events be held?
Qualifying for the first cycle will start in July. Please check the Upcoming Events page for more details of qualifying events near you.
What format will qualifying be?
Formats for WPN Premium Store Qualifiers will be determined by the respective stores. For the first cycle, formats for both WPN Premium Store Qualifiers and Open events will be selected among the following: Standard, Pioneer, Modern, and Sealed.
What is the difference between Decentralised and Centralised Opens?
Depending on the COVID and international travel situations, in each cycle, the mid to large- scale qualifying Open events will be determined to be decentralised or centralised. If decentralised, there will be a mid-scale Open event in every country. If centralised, there will be a large-scale Open event in a selected country. There will not be both Decentralised and Centralised Open events in the same cycle feeding that respective cycle’s SEA Championship Final.
Are there any promo cards for the qualifying events?
Yes! There will be promos for participation (while supplies last), top finishers and players who earn invites. Please check the Event Series Information page for more details.
What are the prizes for the qualifying events?
Prizes for WPN Premium Store Qualifiers will be determined by the respective stores. Each Decentralised Open will have a prize pool of US$1,000 and the Centralised Open will have a prize pool of US$5,000.
If I am already qualified, can I still play in another WPN Premium Store Qualifier and/or Open? *New*
Yes! Qualified players can play in future qualifying events so you can win more promo cards, prize money and/or travel stipends to the SEA Championship Final.
If I already have an invitation and win another, will the invitation be passed down? *Updated*
Yes! For both WPN Premium Store Qualifiers and Opens, invitations will be passed down to the next unqualified top finisher.
Can I play a WPN Premium Store Qualifier and/or Open outside of my country? *New*
Yes! Qualifying events are not country locked and players may play at any country's events. Play the Game, See the World!
How many players will be invited to the SEA Championship Final? How many invites are awarded at each event?
There will be approximately 200 invites to the SEA Championship Final per cycle. Each WPN Premium Store Qualifier will award 2 invites. Each Decentralised Open will award 8 invites and the Centralised Open will award 32 invites.
Will there be side events at Open events? Will there be Commander events?
Yes! There will be side events catering to all levels of play including Draft, Sealed, Constructed, Commander and also small-scale qualifier events.
Why does another country have more/less WPN Premium Store Qualifiers?
Some countries may have more WPN Premium Store Qualifiers due to a higher number of WPN Premium Stores. If a country has fewer WPN Premium Stores than the regional average, stores who are working their best towards Premium may be invited to run Qualifiers to ensure the number of Qualifiers per country is close to the regional average.
Why is my favorite local game store (LGS) not running any Qualifiers?
If you would like to have your favorite LGS run Qualifiers, please nudge and encourage them to work towards attaining WPN Premium.
